ABOUT ME

Sandra Walkin never considered herself an artist until someone told her she was. That encounter led her on a journey to becoming a furniture artist who combines wood and metal to create one-of-a-kind pieces. She lives in Lake Charles, Louisiana and attended McNeese State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from University of Louisiana at Monroe.

She has participated in faux finishing classes and workshops all over the United States. Her education in European Plasters, Metallic Plasters, and Furniture Finishing led to her interest in furniture building. Her craft is concentrated on using natural edged slabs of wood, methods of wood joinery, metal inlay, gilding and metal patination. She did an apprenticeship with George Olivier of Olivier Furniture in Natchitoches, Louisiana and a course with the JD Lohr School of Woodworking in Pennsylvania. She has also completed workshops and classes with David J Marks Designer/Craftsman in Northern California.
